Embracing the spirit of public welfare, our "Jia" is always open

share

Instilling the habit of public welfare in BIBA students and integrating charity into their genes, the warmth and inspiration conveyed through these acts align with BIBA's vision of "Deeply Rooted in China, and with the world in mind." The school's 4R principles—Respect for others, Relationships, and Responsibility to the community and society—manifest the spirit of goodness. The "Ren Yi Li Zhi Xin" (benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trustworthiness) standards place benevolence first, emphasizing the love for oneself and others. Among the ten core competencies for IB students, the ability to care points towards goodness, from showing concern and respect for those around them to taking responsibility for the community and beyond. Through ongoing community service and the annual BIBA Day of Service, BIBA students continually demonstrate their commitment to contributing, exploring, and striving for their community.

BIBA Day

As an annual grand charity event at BIBA, students of all grades participate in various charity activities on "BIBA Day."

They donate books to community libraries, raise funds for the Little Drop through charity runs, and sell items at flea markets to donate to the Star Rain Education Institute, which helps children with autism, or to support children with blood diseases.

Each grade level at BIBA has its own unique way of celebrating BIBA Day, but the goal is the same: to inspire kindness, transcend limitations, and fulfill dreams.

BIBA Day is not just a holiday for children; it's also a day for teachers and parents to guide their children in helping others. Teachers, parents, and students come together to contribute their love and donations, and the kindness of teachers and parents becomes a positive and passionate force, leading the children to engage in public welfare.

Through continuous acts of kindness, BIBA students are inspired to embrace greater love and kindness, realizing from a young age that they can be both recipients and providers of help, feeling and spreading love, connecting and sharing love, and understanding the world they live in from a broader perspective.

KG pupils learnt about caring for puppies in their class and organised a donation drive for a stray dog charity.

Year One pupils donated books to the community charity library.

Year 2 pupils are taking part in a charity run around the school grounds, raising funds for the Little Droplets charity based on the distance they cover.

The flea market is run by pupils from Years 3 to 5, who diligently manage their stalls. Proceeds from sales will be donated to the Starry Rain Education Institute to support children with autism.

Year 6 pupils contributed to environmental protection through beach clean-up initiatives, while Year 7 and 8 students visited multiple charities to assist children.

Charity Concerts & Book Fair

On December 16, 2023, BIBA's elementary community united for the 2023 New Year Charity Concert, an event that blended music, art, and charity. The concert, free of charge, welcomed all to experience the joy of giving, raising funds for the Tongxin Library's 161 children. Months later, on March 23, 2024, the "BIBA Charity Book Fair" furthered this spirit, with each book sold supporting children with leukemia. The market, including parent and student-run stalls, and musical performances, raised 60,000 yuan, demonstrating BIBA's commitment to community service and the power of love. These events embody BIBA's educational values, nurturing compassion and a sense of social responsibility in its students.

CAS and Community Service

CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) plays a pivotal role in the growth and development of children at BIBA. It offers opportunities for self-improvement, fostering personal growth and collaboration to achieve goals and make achievements. This not only benefits the students themselves but also their communities and those they aim to assist.

CAS activities cultivate teamwork, innovative thinking, and responsibility in students, teaching them to solve problems in practice and enhance their overall qualities. Community service, on the other hand, educates them to be grateful and give back to society, nurturing empathy and a sense of citizenship.

BIBA's community service includes action-oriented, advocacy, fundraising, and social innovation/enterprise categories, focusing on meeting genuine needs and solving real problems. Eleventh grader Song, who is also the president of the community service club, has been involved in community service projects since middle school, such as helping with fundraising and selling items at family days.

BIBA continues to support the "Strong Bat Angel" project at the Angel Orphanage, aiming to help impoverished children participate in professional baseball training and enrich their lives. Students actively participate in CAS and community service, making their journey of growth diverse, dynamic, and rich.
