Welcome to Early Childhood Center

The BIBA Early Childhood Center (ECC), hosting children 2 years to 4 years of age, provides an immersive, bilingual curriculum where teaching time is equally divided between English and Chinese. Our Chinese and foreign teachers collaborate in age-leveled teams to provide a warm, rich, interesting, and safe learning environment for all children. At BIBA ECC, students are grouped into three age groups. We are committed to providing high-quality learning experiences for our students each day and strive to allow them many opportunities to learn and grow. Our teacher teams share student progress and overall development with parents several times throughout the year.

We offer various activities for our students daily. Students have free play-time to select their own activities. They also have teamwork time, during which children explore their world as a team under the teacher’s supervision. Sometimes they engage in small and whole group discussions where every child has a chance to express herself or himself. They also have outdoor time where they can play on our playground, which is designed for younger children, or they can explore nature. They read books, build with blocks, bake cakes, and explore nature. Having a great time is all part of their learning experience at the BIBA ECC.

The children at ECC are consistently engaged in small group and large group experiences to help awaken, develop, and model the concept of collaboration, sharing, and teamwork. As a bilingual school, we strive to create a balance between English and Chinese in a multicultural, “print-rich and language rich” environment. We believe that childhood is a very special time in a child’s life.

Throughout the BIBA ECC experience, children are in constant discovery mode. They are encouraged to explore their immediate surroundings and to share their impressions with their peers and their teachers. We challenge children to inquire more and we work to push their thinking further. Children are also exposed to different activities that will foster and encourage creativity: building with blocks, cooking, art, emergent reading, acting out a book/story, and dramatic play.

Parents are strong partners in our ECC program. We strive to build positive and strong school and family relationships and work together to give our children the best learning experience possible.

 Core Curriculum

    Bilingual Thematic Enquiry Curriculum

    This bilingual kindergarten is based on China’s “Guidelines for Preschool Education” and early childhood best practices from around the world. The combined focus of our work allows students to engage in dual language and dual cultural experiences. We strive to develop teacher-child centered interactions where a focus on social-emotional competence is the norm. Western and Chinese teachers collaboratively plan and create opportunities for constructive and purposeful play ensuring that students are positively interacting with the environment and each other.

    English language courses

    In ECC we teach language in an immersive English environment, guiding the children using reading about scenes from daily life to develop fluent expressions, verbal and written communication and reading ability. Every child has the opportunity to learn at his or her own level in every area of the curriculum. They learn to use words to describe their family members, familiar people, places and events and are encouraged to express their thoughts and feelings throughout each day in both English and Chinese. This approach helps to build a solid foundation in language immersion.

    Self-learning areas

    Every classroom is carefully constructed into six learning centers. These include natural science, art, construction, role play, educational activities and reading activities from which children can choose based on their own interests. This develops confidence in self-learning and knowing how to make good choices. Children learn to get along with a partner and display their own ability to solve problems. They play using their own ideas and creativity.

    Creative Art

    Art classes are taught by specialized art teachers. Students can try a variety of interesting means of artistic expression: pulp model, traditional paper-cuts, fruits and vegetables, tie dye, totem mask. Through construction with a variety of materials, children develop their own modes of expression and experience the joys of artistic creation. Children’s artwork is displayed in the classroom and throughout our ECC building for all to enjoy.

    Music

    Music from the special music teacher includes percussion, vocal music, dance and musical enlightenment. The children in ECC have many great opportunities to show their talents in music and drama in the kindergarten classroom. The halls of the ECC are alive with the sound of wonderful performances each day.

    Cooking

    In a game-based learning process, through watching, smelling, touching, tasting and other sensory experiences, children learn to understand the properties of various foods. Through the cooking class experience, children share the delicious fragrance of food and develop healthy eating habits. In the discovery of new tastes, children’s imaginations and creativity are enhanced as they learn about food culture of the world.

    Extra-curricular interest classes

    The ECC offers rich extra-curricular classes each semester for children called After School Activities or ASAs. Children are free to choose their favorite courses and parents register their child according to those choices. These classes include: cooking, arts and crafts, roller skating, carpentry, Orff music and so on. The content is very rich.
